Quick Review: Brooklyn Brewery Monster Ale Barleywine 2011

This was a crazy beer. Big and bold chocolate flavors, like a stout, but with some sweeter floral and tropical flavors you don't usually get from a beer. And with an ABV of 10.1%, it's nearly as strong as some wines--packing quite the punch. Unfortunately, Brooklyn Brewery no longer produces this Monster Ale.

Quick Reviews: Pedroncelli Red Wines

Very complex. A bit astringent, but not in a bad way at all. The bitterness is offset by the sweet fruit flavor. Great as a pre-dinner sipping wine. It reminded us of Campari, but was not as bitter. Got the saliva flowing. Our favorite wine from the Pedroncelli Winery mailing.

A blend of Merlot, Zinfandel, Petit Sirah, and Syrah. Almost inky in color, this complex red starts out fruity, moves on to earthy, and then finishes tart. A very drinkable and versatile table wine.

Needed time to open up, but was worth the wait. Chateauneuf-de-Pape is one of the more prestigious wine regions in the world, and their wine come at a price. Typically outside our price point, Tina had decided one glass of wine for the evening was enough and hedged her bets on this one. It was worth it!
